About Crystal Hinshaw

Welcome to West Texas High School!!

I am Mrs. Crystal Hinshaw and this is going to be my 10th year as a full time teacher.  I have a passion for not only teaching, but for learning as well.   I will always be a lifelong learner and have enjoyed becoming more knowledgeable in my profession.  I started out at Frank Phillips where I received my Associate of Arts Degree in teaching.  I then went to West Texas A&M University where I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in elementary education with honors as Summa Cum Laude.

After graduating, I was fortunate to obtain a 1st grade teaching position at West Texas Elementary school.  I taught first grade for 5 years.  I loved teaching first grade, but had the opportunity to reach more students in need, as our school’s reading and math interventionist, dyslexia teacher, and 5th grade reading teacher.  For the last three years I taught first through fifth grades in Math, Reading and English.

Although I loved teaching at the elementary and miss my old students I decided to come to the high school for several reasons.  I had been working on my Masters in Educational Leadership to obtain my principal certification.  I have completed all the classes and passed the principal certification exam to obtain my principal certification.  I am waiting to take my comprehensive exam to complete my Masters which is only given twice a year.  As I will be certified as a principal in all grade levels I wanted to gain experience in the high school.

An additional perk to working at the high school this year is that all four of my daughters (Brenna is 18, Arden is 17, Kirstyn and Kenlee are 15 years old) are at the high school and I will be able to spend more time with them.  I will have been married to my husband, Curtis Hinshaw, for 20 years this March.  My days are full of finding better ways of teaching my students and running to all the activities that my girls are in.
